Spatial structure for a connected future

Changing working environments: How PwC and König + Neurath are designing the office of tomorrow

With its Operate Delivery Centre in Merchant Square, PwC has not only created a modern working environment in Belfast, but also established a supra-regional hub for scalable, technology-supported services. More than 3,000 employees work here across disciplines on international projects for clients in the financial services, energy and public sectors.

König + Neurath supported this complex process as an equal partner – from conceptual consulting and the development of the room structure to the precise implementation of individual room-in-room and glass partition solutions.

Challenge: Creating structure, integrating technology

PwC values a positive working atmosphere. The open architecture of Merchant Square required a finely balanced spatial structure that facilitates both collective work and individual retreat. At the same time, hybrid usage scenarios and digital technologies had to be elegantly integrated without disrupting the architectural expression.

Our solution: transparency and functionality in one system

HORIZONTE H130 glass partition system

  • 550 running metres of frame-reduced glass structures
  • Curved glass elements for zoning surfaces
  • Opaque modules with magnetic whiteboard and acoustic panels
  • Free-standing walls with selective ceiling connection
  • Double-leaf sliding doors with concealed magnetic lock
  • Sprout structure in glass for an industrial, elegant aesthetic
  • Electrical post for integrating digital room booking systems

THINK.TANK.II – reversible room-in-room system

  • 32 units in graduated sizes (single, double and triple rooms)
  • High-quality double glazing for acoustic decoupling
  • Control of lighting and ventilation via TFT touch panel and sensors
  • Connection to on-site climate control system
  • Work walls with IT integration, organisational rails and cable ducts
  • Colour coordination and material selection in collaboration with the interior design team

Sustainability

The aluminium profiles used in the systems are made from 25% recycled material and were manufactured with reduced CO₂ emissions. Certified according to Hydro Low Carbon Aluminium.

Our conclusion:

The systems used redefine space as a transparent, functional and atmospheric element. They communicate visually with each other and elegantly bring complex requirements for privacy, collaboration and technology to life.

From the initial room concept to millimetre-precise installation: we provide comprehensive support for projects. At PwC Belfast, the focus of our work was on combining architectural vision, technological integration and usage-oriented flexibility.
